The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Fantastic print from Hiroshige's rare 47 ronin series published by Izumiya Ichibei (Kansendo) around 1835 - 1839. The series includes a total of sixteen prints, with six different episodes for Act 11, "The Night Attack on Moronao's Mansion." Instead of the traditional subjects associated with each act of the Chushingura, Hiroshige has chosen to focus on lesser-known parts of the play. For example in Act 6, he depicts the hunters dropping off the murdered Yoichibei's body at his home rather than Kampei committing suicide, as is commonly seen. These handsome designs include nicely detailed settings. A fine subject for a collector interested in this timeless tale of honor and revenge.

Image Size - 8 1/8" x 13 1/8"
