Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
View of Yanagishima in the Eastern Capital, circa 1830s

Comments - Charming scene of beauties strolling through Edo in wintertime. Each carries an umbrella, and the woman at left has a hood wrapped around her head and a scarf over her mouth against the cold hair. The beauty in the center wears a gray kimono decorated with snowflakes. A border of clouds separates the figures from a view of Yanagishima, with the ornate roof of the Hagi-dera Temple rising above the snow-covered trees in the center. An attractive design, also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 28"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight separation along vertical centerfold in center panel, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, slight rubbing at edges, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
