Sunset Glow at Ryogoku Bridge

Series; Eight Views of Edo

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Sunset Glow at Ryogoku Bridge - Beautiful image of the Sumida River and Ryogoku Bridge as the sun sets. At left, the prow of a pleasure boat juts into view, adding a sense of scale and distance. Fine detail in the boats on the undulating water and the supports and railings of the bridge. A lovely image with fine bokashi shading, the circular inset surrounded by the dramatic black background. We've never before seen this subject in reprint.

Artist - Kiyonaga (1752 - 1815)

Image Size - 9 1/8" x 7" + margins as shown

Condition - Excellent overall with no issues to report.
