Nakamura Shikan IV as a Warrior, 1873

Comments - Dramatic kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as a warrior on horseback, furiously raising his riding crop above his head as the animal flounders in the rising water. His lips tightly compressed in a frown, he urges his mount onwards through the flood. He wears a striking vest patterned with a dragon over a green brocade robe, a white sash tied around his forehead. A lively design, nicely detailed with embossing in the vest, white kimono collar, and white sash.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper remnant on reverse from previous mounting. Horizontal centerfold. Slight soiling, a few creases, slightly rubbed line. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
