Three Meiji Rogues, 1881

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring three rogues with their hair cropped short in the modern Meiji style, meeting at a boundary marker at night. The man at left shelters the light from a lantern beneath his robe, while the fellow in the center grimaces angrily at his companion, who holds a cased short sword. Nice expressive figures set against a dark sky with shadowy pine branches.

Artist - Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small tear at edge, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
