Kuchi-e Prints in Magazines - During the Meiji era, literary magazines flourished. Issues included novels and serials, and most volumes featured a color kuchi-e, a woodblock frontispiece illustration. Most kuchi-e have been removed from their original context, so we were excited to come across two complete magazines with the kuchi-e prints still intact as originally released. The rest of each magazine is primarily text with a few black and white illustrations. A rare opportunity to collect a kuchi-e design in its original format.
Artist - Toshikata (1866 - 1908)
Image Size - Image 8 3/4" x 11 3/8"; overall size 8 7/8" x 5 7/8" x 1/2"
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two vertical folds. Slight toning and soiling, staining, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
