Demon in the Rain

Series; Pictures from Nature

Demon in the Rain - Amusing comic print depicting a demon walking through the rain, pausing to look up at something hanging beneath a small roof atop a pole at right. He carries a tattered umbrella and a jar tied to a cord, and wears tiger skin leggings and arm protectors beneath his black robe and white mantle. Nicely detailed with shading in the night sky. We've only seen this subject in reprint once before.

Artist - Hokusai (1760 - 1849)

Image Size - 12 3/8" x 7 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Very slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from original publisher mounting. Slight toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
