Series; First Performance of the Year in the Misty Spring of Plum Blossoms, 1862

First Performance of the Year in the Misty Spring of Plum Blossoms - Handsome kabuki print from Kunichika's rarely seen, early series "First Performance of the Year in the Misty Spring of Plum Blossoms." Each print features a half-length portrait of an actor in role from their first performance of the new theater season. The expressive figures are set against an allover embossed background with the silhouettes of pines and blossoming plum trees. An inset in the form of a book at upper left depicts a small scene. A great design from series we've never before offered, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"
