Great Battle between the Minamoto and the Taira, 1858

Comments - Fantastic triptych of Yoshitsune executing his legendary "eight boat leap" at the Battle of Dan-no-ura in 1185, crouching as he flies through the air, a sword in one hand and repelling a naginata in the other. In the right panel his pursuer Noritsune gestures angrily, while a man in the water clenches his sword between his teeth. The magnificent Imperial barge appears at left, with the young Emperor Antoko perched on his grandmother's shoulder. An incredible image, full of energy and excitement, with excellent detail. A great depiction of this famous battle and a nice subject for a samurai enthusiast.

Artist - Kunitsuna II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 14" x 28 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Small hole, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
