Picture of the Wedding Ceremony of Dignitaries, 1900

Comments - Handsome view of a wedding ceremony taking place at the Imperial Palace. The Meiji Emperor and Empress sit on plush chairs at right while a dignitary stands before them reading a proclamation. Three beauties in traditional attire sit on a low platform at left, while three women in Western style formal gowns stand at the back of the room in front of a cloth covered table holding an elaborate wedding decoration with a bonsai pine, lucky cranes, plum blossoms, and figures of elderly couple Jo and Uba, who represent love and fidelity. A fascinating historic subject with lively color and wonderful detail, including burnishing in the black uniforms.

Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Slight and soiling, a few marks and creases, slight curling at sides. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
