Samurai Confronting Each Other, 1865

Comments - Great kabuki scene of two samurai confronting each other outside a country home. The woman kneels in the center, holding a sword upright and smiling at the young archer, Miura Yoshimura, at left. He returns her smile as he rests on one knee, a bow in his hand. He wears a fine suit of armor over brocade robes, a battle helmet hanging at his back and his long hair flowing loosely over his shoulders. The older warrior at right frowns angrily, gripping his pole arm with both hands. His red stage makeup and bushy hair give him an imposing appearance. The actor at left is Otani Tomoemon V. A handsome design with expressive faces and a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few holes and thinning spots, a couple tears at edges, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
