Original M. Abaki Japanese Woodblock Print
Nude Swimming, 1991

Series; Pictures of Spring

Pictures of Spring - This print is from a fascinating collection of nude portraits produced by a variety of sosaku hanga artists in 1989 and 1991. Their works, produced expressly for this series, offer a wide variety of perspectives on nudity and the female form. Each limited edition print is pencil signed and numbered. The series title, "Pictures of Spring," is the literal translation of "shunga."

This series presents an interesting inversion of the expectations for shunga, the main form of 19th century Japanese erotica, by presenting artful and varied nude portraits without the overt sexual content of 19th century shunga.

Artist - M. Abaki
