Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Sino-Japanese War Battle, 1894

Comments - Dramatic depiction of a battle during the Sino-Japanese War. Japanese troops attack the Chinese with swords and guns in the foreground, with a soldier at lower right ready to strike an enemy, who pleads for mercy with clasped hands. On the plateau above, an officer watches the fighting with binoculars, while other men wheel a cannon into place. At upper left, an inset depicts a map or diagram. A lively design we've never before come across.
