Peace Negotiations at Kawanakajima in Shinano Province, 1844 - 1847

Comments - Handsome scene from the Second Battle of Kawanakajima between the forces of Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin along the banks of the Sai River. After a month of skirmishes with no real winner, the two rivals confronted each other across the river to discuss terms for peace. At left, Takeda Shingen sits on a folding stool along the shore under a great fringed standard topped with a paulownia blossom. A samurai holds the reins of a black horse behind him. His retainers are massed along the shore in full armor, with weapons and shields ready for combat if needed. An incredible setting with a panoramic view of the mountains rising in the distance beyond the troops.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 19 1/2" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small losses at edges, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
