Kabuki Double Portrait, 1860

Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait featuring actors on shaped insets set against a blue brick pattern with a white grid over it with birds at the intersections of the lines, and scattered yellow game pieces. In the bird-shaped inset above, a man grins as he looks over his shoulder, wearing a sheer green cap and carrying a hand drum hanging from a sword over his shoulder. Below, a fellow with a large head appears within a diamond shape. The actors include Nakamura Shikan IV. An interesting and unusual format.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Stitching holes at right edge, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
