Beauty Watching Two Yakko Fighting, 1852

Comments - Lively kabuki scene of two yakko or footmen fighting, the men grabbing each other by the wrists as one forces the other to his knee. Each wears a black outer kimono over a red robe with large white crests, and a blue loincloth trimmed with fringe. The beauty watches with a distraught expression, throwing out one hand at her side. Behind them, supernatural foxfires dance in the night sky above swirling gray clouds. An intriguing scene, nicely detailed, with handsome wood grain impression in the right panel.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 19"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels, backed with paper. Stitching holes at one side of each panel from previous binding, a few small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
