Prince Genji Washing His Hands, 1857

Comments - Handsome scene of Prince Genji crouching at the edge of a verandah as he washes his hands in a large water basin perched on a rock in the garden. He grins as he looks up at the young girl behind him, who waits patiently to hand him a blue towel with an image of a crane on it. At right, a beauty leans over the young nobleman with a smile, holding a water dipper. A charming scene with wonderful detail in the architectural setting, including burnishing on the black lacquer frames of the sliding panels.
