Meiji Empress and Court Ladies Viewing the Moon, 1890

Comments - Lovely image of the Meiji Empress and her ladies-in-waiting viewing the moon from a palace verandah. She stands in the center holding a folding fan, smiling as she looks up over her shoulder. She wears a beautiful blue kimono patterned with dragon motifs over a white under robe tucked into red pants, the long legs trailing beneath her feet. Her attendants are similarly attired. Another palace structure can be seen on the peninsula at right, while at left, a small hut sits atop a rocky outcropping, perfect for enjoying a view of the water. A beautiful design with wonderful attention to detail and handsome natural background. Detailed with embossing in the white kimono, and fine bokashi shading in the night sky and water.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small loss at corner, a few small thinning spots, repaired. Very slight soiling, a few creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
