Ashikage Yorikane and the Courtesan Takao, 1861

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Ashikaga Yorikane and his lover, the elegant courtesan Takao, aboard a pleasure boat. The nobleman stares unhappily to the side as he holds out a large red lacquer sake cup for a refill. His outer robe and kimono are both patterned with a bamboo motif, and he holds an ornate pipe in his other hand. The beauty looks down at him with a fond smile, pulling up the collar of her outer robe patterned with maple leaves. Paper lanterns painted with large kanji characters hang overhead, with gently undulating waves on the water. A handsome image from this famous drama.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 19 1/4" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Slight soiling and wrinkling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
