Dismayed Commoner, 1843 - 1847 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Dismayed Commoner, 1843 - 1847

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of a commoner looking over his shoulder with a dismayed expression, his mouth slightly agape. He wears a stripe coat over a plaid kimono tucked up at the waist over blue leggings, a blue cloth wrapped about his neck against the cold. A border of clouds separates the figures from a view of the waterfront, with a lumberyard at right. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse from previous mounting and backing. A few wormholes, thinning and small loss at corner, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and wrinkling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
