Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit - Dramatic image of a thunderstorm beneath the summit of Mt. Fuji, with red lightning flashing across the dark sky. Above the snow-capped peak, hints of blue sky peek through the swirling white clouds. A terrific, bold design and one of the most famous images from this series. This is a very rare reprint published by Kobayashi Bunshichi, with leaf-shaped publisher's seal at upper left and bird-shaped seal with the number 54. left.

Kobayashi Bunshichi published and exported high-quality reprints of Japanese woodblock masterpieces in the early 1900s. His personal collection of ukiyo-e, considered the greatest in Japan at the time, was destroyed along with his shop in Tokyo during the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, putting the publisher out of business. All woodblocks by Kobayashi Bunshichi date prior to 1923, and are rarely seen in the market.
