An Artisan's Shop

Series; The Mist of Sandara

An Artisan's Shop - Fantastic scene of a woodcarver at work making small oval wooden objects. At right, a beauty spins a wooden pole on a frame as a lathe, while the woodworker guides a tool to carve out the inside of the shape. Chisels and blocks of wood in various states are scattered across the straw matting on the floor. At left, a visitor stops to smoke a pipe, leaning over a finished tobacco set, while a woman offers him a cup of tea on a small lacquer tray. His bundle and hat rest on the ground nearby, with a blossoming plum branch tucked through the ropes. The snow capped peak of Mt. Fuji rises majestically in the background. A wonderful scene from daily life, beautifully detailed and colored. A very rare subject to find in reprint.
