Rokuro Kintsura Driven from Taira no Masakado's Court, 1851 - 1852

Comments - Terrific triptych of the samurai Rokuro Kintsura being driven from the court of Taira no Masakado in disgrace. Rokuro remonstrated with his lord for his scheming to become emperor, so Masakado struck him with an iron fan. The dishonored Rokuro is forced down the staircase, his forehead bleeding from the blow, while Taji Tsuneaki kneels before the lord, pleading for his friend. A handsome depiction of this episode from courtly life, with a nicely detailed palace setting.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 29 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, a few creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
