Battle Outside Kawai Castle

From a Kuniyoshi Estate Collection

Battle Outside Kawai Castle - Fantastic battle scene of Nitta Yoshisada's troops attacking Kawai Castle during the 14th century. In the center the hero Shinodzuka Iga no Kami clutches an enormous wooden beam, which he has used to batter down the wooden gates of the complex. Another samurai kicks in the door, a peacock feather personal standard waving above his back. Below him, a warrior grabs handfuls of spears thrust through the openings in the stone walls. At right a general on horseback prepares to lead the charge into the enemy's palace. An incredible triptych with fascinating detail and handsome color. A terrific subject and a great choice for a samurai enthusiast.
