47 Ronin, Act 12: Returning after the Night Attack on Moronao's Mansion, 1890

Comments - Subtitle: Great triptych showing the final act from the kabuki play "Chushingura." The triumphant 47 ronin are returning from the night attack on Moronao's palace on their way to lay their enemy's severed head at the grave of their master, Lord Hangan. Still carrying their weapons, they make their way across an arched wooden bridge back into town as the rising sun sends red rays radiating across the early morning sky. Beautifully detailed with burnishing in the black areas of the robes. From left, the actors are Onoe Kikugoro V as Akabane Genzo, Nakamura Tsurumatsu as Oboshi Rikiya, Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Oboshi Yuranosuke, Ichikawa Sadanji I as Fuwa Sakuemon, and Nakamura Shikan IV as Otaka Gengo. A handsome scene with large figures and an attractive landscape backdrop.
