Courtesan and Kamuro with Ide Jewel River

Comments - Fantastic image of a courtesan and her two young kamuro or child apprentices out for a stroll. The beauty wears an outer kimono patterned with wisteria and tied with a fascinating obi depicting a foreigner with a beard and curly hair wearing exotic robes. The girl at left carries an intricately decorated plaque. Above is a beautiful aizuri-e or all blue landscape of the Ide Jewel River in Yamashiro, one of Japan's famous Six Jewel Rivers. A nobleman has stopped to admire the flowers blossoming along the banks of the winding river. A fascinating subject we've never before seen.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 15 1/8" x 10 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Horizontal centerfold. Slight thinning at edges, a few small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
