Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Poetry Immortals

Comments - Interesting kabuki print featuring three of Japan's famous "Six Immoral Poets." At right, the Heian era beauty Ono no Komachi smiles down at her companion, a folding fan extending from beneath her sleeve. At bottom, the courtier Ariwara no Narihira grins back at her, wearing a purple tunic with a crosshatched pattern and a court cap, a bow in one hand and a quiver of arrows behind his back. At upper left, Otomo no Kuronushi scowls angrily. His black robe features a beautiful burnished lozenge pattern. A handsome, colorful design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
