The Origin of the Turbulence in the Western Sea, 1877

Comments - Interesting scene of Imperial Army officers discussing the beginning of the Satsuma Rebellion in Kagoshima. The man seated at left argues angrily, gesturing with his finger for emphasis. At center right, a general wearing a green sash with a phoenix across the chest of his uniform points back at the young upstart, while a nobleman at right scowls with rage. Nicely drawn and detailed, with burnishing in the black uniforms.

Artist - Hayakawa Shozan (Japanese, 1850–92)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 18 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Loss at edge, a few small holes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
