Courtesans in the Yoshiwara in Spring, 1888

Comments - Handsome kabuki triptych depicting three courtesans and their young attendants strolling through the Yoshiwara on a spring day. They pause under the blossoming cherry trees to chat with a commoner holding a pipe, who frowns at them. The beauty in the center wears an elegant red kimono patterned with purple irises, her two komuso dressed in matching robes. The street is lined with teahouses with red and white lanterns strung from the eaves, giving the scene a festive atmosphere. An attractive design with lively color and fine detail in the clothing and setting.
