Sacrificing a Child

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of Ichikawa Danjuro IX as the Hojo Warrior Saito Tarozaemon, who has been ordered to sacrifice a young prince. He holds the struggling boy under his arm as he raises a drumstick above his head. In the center, a beauty tries to intervene, as does the grimacing samurai at right, who thrusts out his hand in a stopping gesture. Red maple leaves frame the view outside the window, with a sliding panel at right decorated with yellow clouds framing undulating water. Nicely detailed with embossing in Tarozaemon's hair.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small tear at edge, hole, repaired. Slight soiling, a few small marks. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
