Series; The Thirty-six Outstanding Poems

Onoe Baiko IV as Disfigured Kasane, 1857 - Dramatic kabuki scene showing the young geisha Kasane clinging to the leg of her estranged sweetheart, the disgraced Yoemon. Kasane has been possessed by the spirit of a man Yoemon murdered, her disfigured face taking on the dead man's wounds and the bluish tint of a ghost. Yoemon glares down at her angrily, gripping a sickle in his hand as he recognizes her connection with his victim. A thin crescent moon glows in the darkening sky, and a willow tree hangs gracefully over the rushing water. The actors are Suketakaya Takasuke III as Yoemon and Onoe Baiko IV as Kasane. A fascinating subject with a beautiful, atmospheric setting. A great illustration from this famous supernatural tale.
