Chronicles of the War at Kagoshima

Comments - Fantastic depiction of samurai tossing flaming torches at Imperial Army troops at Kagoshima during the Satsuma Rebellion. Perched on a rocky cliff at left, the rebels throw the burning torches out onto the attackers starting fires with flames that race across the battlefield. One man throws a bucket of water to no avail, while at right samurai rush headlong into the blaze to face soldiers with bayonets fixed. An incredible, dramatic image filled with action.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 3/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
