Our Scout Reconnoiters the Enemy Encampment near the Yalu River, 1894

Comments - Terrific scene from the Sino-Japanese War of a scout pausing atop a hillside along the Yalu River. He looks out across the calm water at the bonfires of enemy encampments, the warm red-orange glow from the fires reflected in the shimmering surface of the river. Clouds drift across the sky past a full moon gently illuminating the scene. A fantastic, atmospheric design, capturing a quiet moment during this historic conflict. Beautifully colored and shaded. A great choice for a student of history. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
