Saigo Takamori, 1877 - Handsome kabuki portrait of an actor as Saigo Takamori, the leader of the rebels during the Satsuma Rebellion. Wearing a splendid military uniform with trimmed with golden yellow braid and fringed epaulets, his sits holding a compass in his hand. Behind him, a woman warrior pulls up her sleeve as she looks back over her shoulder, a naginata in hand. A battle takes place at Kagoshima in the distance, with pennants and flags fluttering against the night sky. A great image with wonderful detail, from rarely seen Kunichika series.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few large losses at edge, a few holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
