Comments - Fantastic scene of the great warrior Kato Kiyomasa (here called Sato Masakiyo) and his men viewing Mt. Fuji from the coast of Korea. A distinguished leader, Kiyomasa was one of the three senior commanders during the Seven-Year War with Korea. He is shown here sitting proudly astride his horse, shielding his eyes with his hand as he looks towards his homeland. Two Korean natives, depicted with dark skin, curly red hair, and long fingernails, kneel on the shore at left, pointing and gesturing. Fantastic detail in the armor and weapons of the samurai, and a fascinating depiction of foreigners. Includes embossing in the furry white standard. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A great design with beautiful color.
