Original Oda Hironobu (1888 - ?) Japanese Woodblock Print
Hot Salt Water Bath at Shiobara Hot Spring, circa 1930s

Comments - Wonderful view of the Shiobara onsen or hot spring, with visitors relaxing in rooms with balconies overlooking the spring below, where a woman washes her hair. Other guests sit beneath the sheltered edge of a pool on the lower floor of the multistory building. A terrific depiction of a traditional Japanese onsen, attractively colored with a soft, painterly quality. Little is known about the shin-hanga artist Oda Hironobu, who produced a few landscape prints during the 1930s. He worked primarily with the publisher Maeba. Woodblock prints by Hironobu are rarely seen in the market and are highly collectible. A great design.

Signature - Hironobu, with red artist's bird seal
Publisher - Maeba, with oval publisher's seal at lower left

Artist - Oda Hironobu (1888 - ?)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight thinning on reverse at top corner from previous mounting, repaired. Light toning, a few light creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
