Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Visiting an Iris Garden, 1880

Comments - Attractive scene of ladies-in-waiting accompanying two young princes on a visit to an iris garden. In the center, a beauty holds the hand of a small boy as he strolls along the wooden plank walkways out over the water. Another attendant shelters him with an umbrella. At upper left, an older prince is escorted by a beauty carrying an umbrella with a sword bearer following behind. Purple blossoms and rich slender leaves fill the water around the walkways. A charming and colorful design we've never come across before.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/2" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight toning and soiling, rubbing at edges, a few creases, darkening at top edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
