The Battle of Takadachi in Osshu, 1851 - 1852

Comments - Handsome scene of Hatakeyama Shigetada on horseback atop a hill at right, surveying Takadachi Castle in Osshu as his men begin attacking it. Below, samurai move along the shore and across a bridge over the moat at right to stream through the gate into the fortress. Defenders are massed inside the fortress, their standards and pennants just visible above the stone walls. A great panoramic design, nicely detailed. An interesting depiction of the quiet moments leading up to the battle.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 29 1/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Stitching holes at sides, small losses and thinning at corners, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
