Original Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Print
Series; The Prelude to Desire, 1799

Series; The Prelude to Desire, 1799 - While other lesser artists fed the mass market demand for shunga with cheap, hastily produced prints, in his production of "A Prelude to Desire" (Negai no itoguchi), Utamaro elevated the art form. His sensitive and expressive portrayals of lovers remain some of the greatest works of art in a field that was explored by finest artists of the golden age of woodblock printing.

Original prints from this series are almost never available on the market and, when found, can sell for upwards of $10,000. This print is an incredible opportunity for a serious collector at an incredibly low opening bid price. This is, without a doubt, one of the most highly coveted shunga series ever made.
