Oharame by Nishijima (born 1945)

Original Nishijima (born 1945) Japanese Woodblock Print
Oharame

From the Uchida Publisher Archives - We were fortunate to purchase a wonderful collection of 20th century prints directly from the archives of the Uchida Art Company of Kyoto. The classic 20th century prints offered in our auction from this collection are all first edition prints of various designs released by the Uchida company in the mid-20th century. These first edition prints are unusual to come by in a nice group as they were generally sold off as they were produced. This excellent collection was held back and recently sold from the Uchida archives. These prints are a nice opportunity to collect a lovely 20th century print, or perfect as reasonably priced gifts. Don't miss out on these prints, once they sell out, we won't have them again!

Comments - Attractive modern portrait of an Oharame or farm woman from the village of Ohara near Kyoto. These beauties are known for their distinctive costumes, and can often be seen in the streets of Kyoto selling flowers and firewood. Carefully balancing a load of brushwood atop her head, she wears a deep blue kimono, the sleeves tied back with a red sash, and a white cloth over her head. A terrific design celebrating this traditional Japanese costume, rendered with bold line work. An early, unsigned work by Katsuyuki Nishijima.

Image Size - 4 3/4" x 8 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper slightly rippled. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
