Kiyonaga (1752 - 1815) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Mother and Baby Boy

Series; Current Manners in Eastern Brocade

1930's Reprints - These early reprints were produced using traditional inks and papers in the 1930's before World War II. With the influx of foreigners following the war, there were a great number of prints produced for visitors unfamiliar with the tradition of Japanese woodblock printing. These prints, however, were produced for local collectors and so great care was taken to finely emulate the original prints. These 1930's prints bear a rectangular red seal and, while they are recognized by collectors as being reprints of the finest quality, the name of the publisher was lost. A rare, beautiful print with an attractive sense of age

Mother and Baby Boy - Charming image of a young mother cuddling her baby boy, the child dressed in a loose kimono. A beauty stands nearby, drying the side of her face with her kimono sleeve after a bath. A tie-dyed robe is draped over the folding screen at right, and a small toy drum and mallet rest on the floor at left. Beautiful soft color and lovely detail in the fabrics and household furnishings, including embossing on the leaves of the kimono at left.

Artist - Kiyonaga (1752 - 1815)

Image Size - 15" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight thinning on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. Slight toning, a few creases at edges, small red seal at lower right. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
