Confrontation at a Tea Stand, 1851

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a confrontation taking place at a tea stand. At left, a monk or priest appears worried, frowning with his eyes wide as he clutches a standard on a pole. In the center, a beauty hides behind her companion, who looks up with a slightly puzzled expression. A drawstring purse lies on the ground behind him. The fellow at right grimaces angrily, his hand clenched into a fist. An intriguing design with expressive figures and a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical centerfold in each panel. Slight separation at ends of one fold, hole, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and slightly rubbed spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
