The Fiancee of the Tokugawa Shogun Keiki

Series; Personalities of Recent Times

The Fiancee of the Tokugawa Shogun Keiki - Lovely print depicting the fiancee of the last of the Tokugawa Shoguns, Yoshinobu, who was also known as Tokugawa Keiki. She is an elegant woman of the upper class, her blackened teeth indicating her future status as a married woman. She wears a fine formal kimono, her pale pink and white under robes treated with a delicate embossed detail. She stands before a beautiful painted screen, a poem slip and a calligraphy brush in hand, her hair swept sleekly back from her face. A very attractive design from this interesting series done for the Yamato Shimbun newspaper.
