The Actor Nakamura Shikan and his Wife, 1886 - Handsome portrait of the kabuki actor Nakamura Shikan and his wife an afternoon of music together. His wife plays a shamisen, the instrument spread across her lap and a plectrum in her hand. Shikan has picks on his fingers for playing the koto. He looks over his shoulder with a slight smile, clasping his hands before him. The room looks out onto a garden enclosed with a bamboo fence and framed by colorful maple leaves. Nice fine line work in the faces and hair.
