Comments - Great illustration from the Sino-Japanese War of the Battle at Lushunkou. An Japanese officer's horse rears as troops fire off a volley of shots from the grasses behind him. The officer grips the reins with one hand and brandishes his sword in the other as his mount paws the air, clouds of smoke filling the night sky. At left, a Chinese rider tumbles from his horse after being hit, his hat flying one direction and his sword another as his fellow soldiers flee. A striking design with burnishing in the officer's uniform and fine bokashi shading in the background.
