Lord Yoritomo's Hunting Party Assembles in the Foothills of Mt. Fuji, circa 1839 - 1841

Comments - Fantastic scene of Yoritomo's hunting party assembling at Suso Moor at the base of Mt. Fuji in 1193. Yoritomo sits in the center, a retainer holding an umbrella above him and another carrying a standard topped by the paulownia blossom crest of the Minamoto family. Archers mounted on horseback wear the traditional curved woven hats worn during upper-class hunts, and wait patiently while the rest of the group arrives up the hilltop at left. Mt. Fuji towers behind the men, filling the background with its imposing presence. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A terrific depiction of this historic event.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal centerfold. A few losses at edges, a few wormholes and small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
