Comments - Charming scene of beauties in the Yoshiwara enjoying their spare time. At left, a kneeling courtesan looks up from arranging flowers to chat with her companion while holding a stem with many blossoms on it. A kamuro or child apprentice assists her, with scissors and knife on the floor nearby. Behind the standing woman in the center, a red kimono patterned with peonies and a colorful bird hangs over a lacquer stand. At right, a woman prepares to add tea to a small teapot, while the beauty next to her carries an ornate red lacquer chest. A lovely design with wonderful detail in the elegant setting and furnishings, including a go board, and a koto leaning up against the wall next to a hanging scroll at left.
