Iwai Kumesaburo III as Okaji, 1855

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Iwai Kumesaburo III as Okaji, the wife of the otokodate or street knight Danshichi Kurobei. She smiles coyly as someone tugs on the end of her black obi, holding her sleeve to her chin. She wears a green and white tie-dyed kimono with blue blocks featuring white crests, her hair pulled back into a simple knot adorned with a few hairpins. A sewing chest rests on the floor at right, with a pincushion on top and small cards with thread wrapped around them, a scissors nearby. Signs hang on the back wall, the gray panels bordered with a cracked ice pattern. A handsome design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, a few spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
