Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Courtesan and Kamuro

Comments - Lovely aizuri-e or all blue portrait of a courtesan and her kamuro or child apprentice out for an evening stroll. Her outer kimono features a design of bamboo and falling snow, trimmed with layers of intricately patterned striped fabric with a scroll and flower motif. Her hair is pulled back into two large loops, adorned with combs and many decorative floral hairpins. Her kamuro wears a matching robe, and a hair ornament covered with small leaves and metal fringe. A blossoming cherry tree frames the blue sky above, with a large lantern resting on the ground at left. A charming design in the rarely seen aizuri-e format.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 7/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Wormholes, small thinning spot, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
