Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Kuzo III, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kuzo III as a man cradling a baby to his chest, looking up with a tightlipped frown. The figure is set against a blue gray background with a grove of bamboo rendered in gray and black calligraphic strokes. The fan-shaped inset above features a straw-wrapped sake cask decorated with gourds, writing, and the three concentric rice measure crest of the Ichikawa Danjuro line of actors. A blue and white floral inset contains a verse. A great design with a handsome and unusual format.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Small loss at corner, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
